Suillus albidipes (Pk.) Singer Cap 4-10cm across, convex, with a false veil of cottony whitish material along the margin, becoming patchy with age; whitish, becoming yellow to reddish buff in age; glutinous to sticky. Tubes adnate becoming adnexed; darkish yellow. Pores tiny, round; yellow, hardly staining when bruised. Stem 30-60x 10-15mm, solid; white, but yellowish toward top and brownish toward bottom portion, which also has dark dots in age. No veil. Flesh white, slowly becoming yellow. Odor not distinctive. Taste not distinctive. Spores oblong, 6.6-8.8 x 2.5-3µ. Deposit dull cinnamon. Habitat scattered or abundant under pine. Found widespread in northern North America and sometimes very common in the Great Lakes area. Season August-November. Edible. |
